I steal because Eve ate the fruit.
Eve is the cause of all wickedness.
War? This is all Eve’s fault.
If I had a thousand Naira for the number of times I’d heard those words, I wouldn’t be a millionaire yet.
It is a pretty common saying. Even amongst unbelievers. It is easy to join the team of blame shifters that say the whole world is in shambles because a woman decided to listen to a talking snake.
It is also very easy to say that there would be no sin if Eve didn’t eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. It is easy to blame her as the source of all evils.
I’ve heard certain men follow Adam’s path and blame women when something goes wrong. They see women as the cause of all that can go wrong.
Some people say that the ‘Orginal Sin’ would not exist if she didn’t eat it but I have some questions to ask.
1) Why did Adam eat the fruit?
2) Why do we blame Eve for what Adam did?
3) Why do we blame Eve for what our fellow human beings do?
4) How many times has Eve or a talking snake spoken to you before you lied, stole, lusted, killed, hated, coveted or gormandized?
For me, the answer to question 4 is ZERO.
THE POINT
Yes. Eve ate the fruit and she may be the cause for the fall of humanity, but she isn’t to blame for every single thing that happens in the world. Neither is she the one for you to blame when you give into temptations.
Just like Adam, it is easy to blame Eve for these things while we forget that we decided to sin by ourselves.
This is why the bible says,
We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. (Romans 6;23)
God won’t take the excuse that Eve is responsible for whatever evil YOU committed.
I don’t think God would punish Eve for Adolf Hitler’s sin. We will all be judged by God. God himself has moved from the sin of Eve to the salvation of man.
The next day John sees Jesus coming to him and says, Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
JOHN 1:29 MKJV
That text says the sin of the whole world. Not the sin of Eve.
She is loooonnnnggg gone and she can’t hear you cursing and blaming her for the state of the world. That is like kicking a dead body. You hurt yourself and look like a crazy person while doing it. It is also quite painful to watch.
Our world is in a crazy state right now. It will get worse but after that will come a time when things would be set right. It is not just a matter of whether Eve also ate the fruit or not. It will be a matter of whether we (individually) are counted worthy to stand before Jesus
Watch therefore, praying in every season that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things which shall occur, and to stand before the Son of Man.
Luke 21:36
CONCLUSION
1) Eve did not eat an apple. She ate of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. If she did eat an apple it would be very wrong for us all to keep eating apples and there would be no point in saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” It would be like remaining in a state of perpetual sin. Those who have never eaten an apple should be in a pre-fallen state.
2) You probably shouldn’t listen to a talking snake.
